The second session of the Vietnam-Mozambique Intergovernmental Committee took place in the Mozambican capital city of Maputo on Sept. 28-30.

The two sides reviewed the implementation of cooperative agreements in a wide range of areas. They noted with pleasure that cooperation in politics and foreign affairs has been consolidated and agreements reached in the first session brought encouraging achievements, especially in telecommunications, agriculture, national defence and security.

They agreed to continue the implementation of projects on rice cultivation in Gaza province and the building of a research centre for rice varieties in Nicoadala district in Zamberia province of Mozambique , along with other projects jointly launched by Vietnam , Japan and Mozambique in the Mozambican province.

Mozambique highly valued the Vietnamese Ministry of Education and Training’s support in human resource development while the Vietnamese side appreciated the Mozambican Government’s decision to open a permanent diplomatic agency in Hanoi , contributing to further boosting the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.

At the session, Mozambique’s ENH national oil and gas company and Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) agreed to speed up the implementation of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) they inked in January last year.

On the occasion, leaders of Movitel, a joint venture between Vietnam ’s military-run telecommunication group Viettel and SPI Invespar Company of Mozambique , informed the session of the implementation of the third mobile network in Mozambique .

Closing the session, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Diep Kinh Tan, who led the Vietnamese delegation, and Head of the Mozambican delegation, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Eduardo Kolama, signed the second session’s MoU and agreed to hold the next meeting in Hanoi in 2013.

During its stay in Mozambique, the Vietnamese delegation met with Mozambican Prime Minister Aires Ali and had a working session with the Mozambican Deputy Minister of Agriculture./.
