Hanoi (VNA) –Vietnam and Mozambique can cooperate in several transportation areas as the two countries share similarities in geography and own a four-decade traditional solidarity and friendship, said Transport Minister Truong Quang Nghia.

During his talks with Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Mozambique Carlos Alberto Fortes Mesquita in Hanoi on May 23, Nghia said that infrastructure development, including transport infrastructure, is determined as a crucial measure to turn Vietnam into a modern industrialised country.

He shared that Vietnam has achieved remarkable progress in road and aviation development over the past number of years. However, the country has failed to effectively use railways for goods transportation, while traffic congestion still needs efficient solutions.

In return, the Mozambican minister briefed the host on his country’s development policies and bilateral cooperation possibilities in the transport sector. He said his government has defined transport infrastructure development as one of the four important areas for sustainable growth.

He requested Vietnam to provide tourist vessels and more scholarships in the area of transportation to Mozambique. He also hoped that the Southeast Asian nation would share experience in ensuring transport safety, minimising traffic accidents and reducing traffic congestions in big cities.-VNA
