Vietnam has been praised as the new King of Coffee in a recent article posted on Le Point – a French weekly magazine.

Titled “Le Vietnam , nouveau roi du café” , the article said Vietnam is the world’s second largest coffee producer after Brazil , supplying 39 percent of robusta coffee bean for the world market.

The Southeast Asian country is the leading coffee supplier of France , it said.

The article quoted statistics of the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development which said the country earned 2.3 billion USD from manufacturing 1.76 million tonnes of coffee last year.

Several foreign groups such as Mondelez, Nesle or Ecom are providing assistance to Vietnamese farmers in coffee cultivation techniques. The US group of Mondelez has opened a training centre in the country, and committed to invest a total of 200 million USD from now to 2020 in Vietnam ’s coffee industry.

Industry experts say the coffee industry’s future lies in Vietnam, as no other country can meet the great demand for robusta coffee materials at a time when the consumption of this variety is ever-increasing.-VNA
