The 2011 International Vietnam Open Badminton Tournament officially kicked off at the Phan Dinh Phung stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on August 22.

Over 300 players from 23 nations and territories compete in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

The Vietnam team consists of 42 players (25 males and 17 females) coming from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city, Bac Giang, Dong Nai, and the Army.

Nguyen Tien Minh, who ranks 7 th in the world and is the No. 1 seed of the Tournament, together with Nguyen Hoang Nam, Le Ha Anh, and Van Tuan Kiet, are exempted from the preliminary round in the male section.

The event attracts various world seeds such as Sho Sasaki from Japan, who ranks 12 th , Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia, 21 st , Alamsyah Yunus, from Malaysia, 30 th , and Chan Yan Kit from Hong Kong, 40 th .
The total prize adds up to 50,000 USD, within 3,750 USD each for the champions of men’s and women’s singles, and 3,950 USD each for the champions of men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

The event, which will run through August 28, takes place every year and is graded by the International Badminton League./.
