Nguyen Van Lai won one more gold medal for Vietnam in the men’s 5,000m run during the December 17 competition of the ongoing 27 th SEA Games.

This is the first-ever gold in the history of Vietnam’s athletics in this category.

Lai outpaced his Thai and Indonesian rivals to cross the finish line first at a time of 14:19.35.

Meanwhile, shooters Dang Le Ngoc Mai, Trieu Thi Hoa Hong and Nguyen Thuy Dung bagged one gold medal in the women’s 25m sport pistol team event.

Vietnam has so far won 45 gold medals at the Games, ranking second in the tally after Thailand with 59 golds.-VNA
