Hanoi (VNA) - The Genral Directorate of Vocational Training and Denso Vietnam Co. Ltd on April 7 signed a memorandum of understanding on training contestants for the upcoming 44th WorldSkills Competition.

According to the pact, Denso, a global supplier of advanced automotive technology, systems and components, will provide courses on industrial control and CNC (numerically controlled computer) skills for two Vietnamese contestants at its training centres in Japan and Vietnam.

A representative of Vietnam, who was trained by Denso, won a CNC certificate of excellenceat the 43rd WorldSkills Competition (WSC) in Brazil in 2015.

This year, Vietnam will send 13 contestants, who have achieved high ranking at the 2016 ASEAN skills competition, to compete in 12 out of 52 skills at the 44th WSC.

According to Cao Van Sam, Vice General Director of the General Department of Vocational Training, the candidates will be trained for six months ahead the competition, compared to four months in previous years.

Vietnam started participating in the biennial competition in 2007 and earned numerous outstanding skills certificates.The country won its first bronze medal in 2015, along with eight vocational skills certificates of excellence.

The 44th WSC, expected to feature 52 competition skills, will take place in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, from October 8 to 20.

The organiser has to date received registration for 1,298 candidates from 61 countries and territories worldwide.-VNA
