Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the State Commission on Overseas Vietnamese Nguyen Thanh Son concluded a four-day working visit to the Republic of Korea on June 10.

During his stay in the RoK, Deputy Minister Son discussed the issues of bilateral ties, overseas Vietnamese and consulate with RoK Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Shin Kae-soo.

Son also worked with Assistant to RoK Foreign Minister in charge of expats and consular issues Lee Jun-kyu.

The Vietnamese diplomat shared his experiences with President of the RoK Overseas Fund Kwon Young-kon about how to assist and mobilise the overseas community.

He held a working session with the Vietnamese Labour Management Department in the RoK and the Guest Workers Assistance Centre under the RoK Labour Ministry. He inquired into the RoK’s policies on guest workers and other issues relating to Vietnamese workers in the country.

The deputy minister also talked with hundreds of Vietnamese youths who are working in the RoK under the Employment Permit System (EPS) programme.

At his working session, Son informed his host of the Vietnamese Party, State and government’s policy on overseas Vietnamese.

He said that his Commission would organise the first conference for overseas Vietnamese around the world in Hanoi to mark the 50 th anniversary of the commission’s establishment.
