The first Women Forum between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) took place in Hanoi on November 15.

Over the past two decades, women’s organisations of Vietnam and the RoK have established cooperative ties as a result of the strong development of the two countries’ relationship. There is huge potential for cooperation between both sides in the field.

To further enhance cooperation, the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and several RoK partners agreed to hold the forum in shifts between the two countries to share information and experience building policies and taking measures in order to boost the advancement of women.

Addressing the event, VWU President Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa stressed that the debut of the forum will contribute to increasing understanding and friendship between the two countries’ people and women, thus helping realise the cooperation potential.

Keum Sook Choe, Director of the Korean Women’s Development Institute (KWDI) expressed her hope that the forum will lead to greater partnerships. It will also serve to gather Vietnam and the RoK’s experts on women’s issues to work together towards a better future.

Participants focused on sharing experiences in building and implementing policies on female workforce development, vocational training and job provision for women.

They also discussed cooperation opportunities in women’s issues, while mapping out plans for the next forum in the RoK to promote the advancement and equality of women in the two nations.

On the occasion, the VWU and the KWDI signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation in the fields of research, publishing, scholar and information exchange, development project building and implementation.-VNA
