Vietnam attaches importance to developing friendship and cooperation with African countries, including Namibia , the Vietnamese Foreign Minister said on Nov. 2 in Hanoi .

Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh made the statement while holding talks with his visiting Namibian counterpart Utoni Nujoma.

Minh described the visit by Utoni Nujoma and his entourage as an opportunity for the two sides to discuss concrete measures to enhance relations between the two countries and foreign ministries.

Utoni Nujoma said he is delighted to visit Vietnam for the first time and thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for their support to Namibia during the past struggle for national independence.

He highly valued the assistance of Vietnamese agricultural experts in helping the country stabilise food supply and ensure food security.

The Namibian FM expressed his sympathy to victims of recent floods in Vietnam ’s central region.

Namibia attaches importance to promoting cooperation with Vietnam and commits to continued coordination with the country at multilateral forums, especially the United Nations and Non-Aligned Movement, Utoni Nujoma said, adding that Namibia supports Vietnam ’s candidacy for UN agencies.

The two sides discussed and reached consensus on a number of goals and steps to be carried out in the future to exploit potential and improve the efficiency of cooperation, especially in trade, agriculture, fisheries and mining, while encouraging the two countries’ relevant agencies to implement previously signed agreements./.
