Vietnamese health officials on Oct. 1 confirmed 202 more cases of A/H1N1 influenza infection, bringing the nation’s total number of patients to 9,260, including 16 deaths.

Of those infected, 7,567 were released from hospital and the rest are being quarantined for treatment, reported the Preventive Medicine and Environment Department under the Ministry of Health.

Deputy Health Minister Trinh Quan Huan said all suspected cases should be treated at district-level hospitals, even at communal infirmaries, to reduce the number of deaths.

Vietnam has ordered 5 million doses of A/H1N1 flu vaccine from foreign countries, Huan said, adding that health workers who are involved directly in the prevention and control work, pregnant women and those with chronic diseases will be prioritised to be vaccinated.

The epidemic has now spread to 59 out of the country’s 63 provinces and cities, with Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Binh Duong and Lam Dong seeing the largest numbers of patients./.
