Vietnam has so far not recorded any cases of the flu virus A(H1N1), stated Deputy Minister of Health Trinh Quan Huan during an on-line conference that focused on disease prevention on May 4.

Addressing the conference, Huan stressed that the virus has become an urgent global issue as it has now spread to 19 countries and everyone, young and old, are at risk of catching the disease.

The official also warned that while infected people made not necessarily exhibit any symptoms, they can still infect others.

He asked all local health care departments and preventive medical centres to pay the strictest attention to detecting any infectious cases and provide aid to patients in the fastest time possible, adding that a close watch must be kept 24 hours a day at all border gates.

Dr. Nguyen Tran Hien, Director of the Central Institute of Epidemic Prevention, urged the public to pay close attention to their personal hygiene and postpone travelling to virus-affected areas.
