Vietnam supports peace, stability and denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula and the efforts to achieve these objectives, said Vietnam’s foreign ministry spokesman.

Answering the question concerning the UN Security Council’s resolution 1874, spokesman Le Dung said Vietnam’s consistent policy is to support a comprehensive ban on nuclear test, non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and movement towards completely eliminating this kind of weapons.

“In this spirit, we share the concern about the nuclear test by DPRK and view that the measures in the new UNSC resolution aim to prevent nuclear proliferation and ballistic missile development in accordance with the UNSC resolution 1718,” Dung said.

The implementation of this resolution must avoid adversely affecting the normal life of the population, and humanitarian, development as well as other legitimate economic activities, he added.

The spokesman also emphasised that the new resolution affirms the Security Council’s commitment to a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the current situation, welcomes countries to facilitate a comprehensive solution through dialogues, including the Six-Party Talks mechanism and refrains from any action that might aggravate tensions./.
