President Truong Tan Sang has affirmed that Vietnam always supports Sri Lanka in its national development and reconciliation.

Receiving Special Envoy of the Sri Lankan President D.E.W Gunasekera in Hanoi on January 23, the President lauded Sri Lanka ’s socio-economic achievements over the past years and wished the country more success.

He offered sympathy over the difficulties and challenges that Sri Lanka is facing currently and stressed that all embargo measures are old-fashioned and go against the aspirations of people in all countries.

Cooperation for mutual development is now the mainstream trend in the current global globalization, President Sang said.

Noting that Vietnam and Sri Lanka have enjoyed good political and diplomatic ties, ee suggested that the two countries should work together to further bolster trade and agriculture cooperation.

Gunasekera noted that Vietnam and Sri Lanka share many similarities, as both countries suffered from difficulties as consequences of prolonged war in the past.

He said Sri Lanka has started its national reconstruction and hopes to receive a helping hand of the international community, including cooperation from Vietnam.-VNA
