A Vietnamese delegation joined other diplomatic missions from 58 countries in the 2012 International Bazaar and Lottery, which opened on November 20 at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva to raise funds for poor children across the world.

Vietnam’s booths attracted a great number of visitors interested in the country’s traditional products such as handicrafts, jewelry and silk garments, as well as food.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, United Nations Director-General in Geneva Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highly valued the participation by diplomatic missions, including that from Vietnam , which contributed to the success of the fair.

Nguyen Thuy Duong, who is in charge of Vietnam’s booths, said this is not only a chance for the participating countries, including Vietnam, to promote traditional specialties and culture, but also an opportunity for them to join hands in helping children all over the world.

The annual event, which is organised by the United Nations Women's Guild in Geneva , has raised an average of 300,000 - 400,000 Swiss Francs every year.

In 2011 the event funded 75 charitable projects in 48 nations.-VNA
