Vietnam will focus on Olympic sports following the success of the country’s athletes in these competitions at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, with a hope of consolidating its position in the region and competing in bigger arenas, including the Asian Games and Olympic Games.

The statement was made by Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the 28th SEA Games Tran Duc Phan.

According to him, track and field, swimming, shooting, gymnastics and weightlifting are now top priorities. At the ongoing 28th SEA Games in Singapore, Vietnam won 11 gold medals in track and field and nine golds in gymnastics.

In particular, special attention is being paid to training athletes with great potential, Phan said, adding that approximately 50 athletes are receiving special training, including swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and track and field athlete Quach Thi Lan, both of whom have performed extremely well at the 28th SEA Games.-VNA
