Vietnam finished first at the 2013 Southeast Asia Junior Athletics Championships, which took place in Ho Chi Minh City on June 7-8, with 26 gold medals, 26 silvers and 25 bronzes.

The Vietnamese delegation was followed by Thailand with 17 golds, 18 silvers and 11 bronzes and Indonesia with 9 golds, three silvers and 8 bronzes.

According to the Vietnam Athletics Federation, Vietnamese athletes succeeded not only in categories of their strength such as middle-distance races like 400m and 800m events but also in short- and long-distance ones like 100m, 1,500m and 2,000m events.

The annual event was participated by athletes from Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.-VNA
