The second meeting of the Vietnam – US Aviation Cooperation Working Group took place in Ho Chi Minh City on September 20.

The event was jointly organised by the US Consulate General in HCM City, Vietnam Airports Corporation and Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam.

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Transport Pham Quy Tieu said that the Vietnam - US Aviation Cooperation Programme was initiated by the US Trade Representative Office earlier this year to carry out priority projects and increase cooperation between the two countries in aviation.

The event looked at ways of ensuring security and safety and US assistance to aviation projects in Vietnam, which, according to Tieu, will maintain sustainable growth in the domestic aviation sector in the coming years.

Participants at the event also discussed procedures as well as technology trends and safety in developing airports.

Le Thanh An, US Consul General in HCM City , said the cooperation will create a foundation for a long-term strategic partnership between private companies and government agencies in the field.

Vietnam’s aviation sector has enjoyed an annual average passenger growth rate of 15 percent and 12 percent in freight. At present, five airlines operate 40 domestic and 45 international flights to 15 countries and territories worldwide.-VNA
