Hosts Vietnam defeated Thailand’s Phuket 25-13, 25-22, 25-11 in the semi-finals of the International Women’s Tournament VTV Cup on August 20.

The team will meet Ukraine’s Technokom, who beat China ’s Guangdong 25-21, 25-16, 25-15, in the final at the Buon Ma Thuot Gymnasium on August 22.

Vietnam , who beat the Thai side 3-0 in the qualifiers on August 19, played with two main attackers Dinh Thi Dieu Chau and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa in the front line with support from Bui Thi Hue and Pham Kim Hue.

Bui Thi Hue scored the winning point in the first set, which the home team won 25-13 in just 15 minutes.

The Thai side regrouped in the second set, going ahead 16-11 with Ariya and Alisa regularly finding gaps in Vietnam ’s defence.

But the turn around came at 12-18, when Dang Thi Hong’s skilful drop shot won back the service for the home side.

Hoa, who stands 1.83m tall, then smashed three quick points, while Do Thi Minh and Pham Kim Hue blocked well.

Thai captain Piaymas Koijapo, who won three gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games, took the Phuket team to 22-20, but Hoa scored three more points before Kim Hue and Dieu Chau smashed their way to 25-22. In the third set, Vietnam cruised to 25-11./.
