Vietnam has welcomed the progress in the political field after the successful organisation of the Inclusive Political Dialogue in the Central African Republic (CAR).

Speaking at a UN Security Council’s meeting in New York on June 22, Vietnamese charge d’affaire to the UNSC, Ambassador Hoang Chi Trung, also commended the efforts by the CAR Government to make preparations for the 2010 national elections.

Trung, however, expressed concerns about the ongoing violence and criminal activities in the northern provinces of the country, adding that the continued support and engagement of the international community are critical to keep the peace and stabilisation processes in the CAR firmly on track.

He also called on all stakeholders in the CAR to work together and cooperate more effectively with their international partners and the UN to promote national reconciliation, reconstruction and socio-economic development.

The ambassador said Vietnam highly appreciates the efforts and contributions of the UN Peacebuilding Support Office in the CAR (BONUCA) to the stablisation process in the country and commends BONUCA’s effective collaboration and coordination with UN Mission in the CAR and the Peacebuilding Commission in the implementation of their respective mandates.
