Vietnamese athletes won three gold and two silver medals in the 2013 Malaysian Open Track and Field Championships in Kuala Lumpur.

Vietnam sent three athletes to the tournament, and all of them reaped success at the event.

Nguyen Thi Phuong bagged two gold medals in the the women’s 1,500m and 3,000m steeplechase with times of 37:11 and 11:12 respectively.

Meanwhile, Quach Thi Lan earned another gold for the Vietnamese team in the women’s 400m hurdles with a time of 57:74.

Vietnam also secured two silver medals in the men’s and women’s 400m race.

Opened from October 19-20, the tournament attracted over 200 athletes from a host of nations and territories, including Australia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Kuwait, UAE, Japan and Hong Kong.

Vietnam’s medal haul has given cause for hope as the nations prepares for the upcoming 27th SEA Games in Myanmar.-VNA
