Vietnamese students won two fourth awards at the 2014 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) held in the US from May 11-16, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.

The award winners were Tran Thi Dieu Lien and Nguyen Nam Du from the Le Hong Phong High School in Ho Chi Minh City with the project “Electronic Braille Display for the Visually Impaired”, and the three-member group: Dang Yen Lan, Tran Tien Dat and Dang Anh Tu from the Hanoi Amsterdam High School with the entry “Lipid Production by Oleaginous Fungi Grown on Rice Straw for Potential Biodiesel Resource.”

The “Electronic Braille Display for the Visually Impaired” project by Tran Thi Dieu Lien and Nguyen Nam Du also won the second award granted by the charity foundation Open Hearts of Ukraine.

More than 1,700 young scientists from 76 countries and territories around the world showcased their research at this year’s event, which is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition.

At the Intel ISEF, awards are based on students’ abilities to tackle challenging scientific questions, use authentic research practices, and create solutions for future problems.-VNA
