Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam women’s team beat Iran to take the lead after three rounds at the Asian Nations Cup Chess Team Championship on March 30.

The game was held at the Novotel Abu Dhabi Al Bustan Hotel in the United Arab Emirates.

Vietnam had two wins and two draws in this match, gaining 10.5 points and temporarily ranking first out of the 10 teams.

On the men’s side, Vietnam lost to China in the third round to rank fifth out of 22 teams.

The men’s championship is being conducted as a nine-round Swiss System. China are the defending champion having scored double victories in both the men’s and women’s divisions in the previous two championships in China in 2012 and in Iran in 2014.

The women’s tournament is being conducted as a round robin game among 10 teams.-VNA
