The present was handed over to Cuban Ambassador Fredesman Turro Gonzalez at a ceremony in Hanoi on Jan. 21.
Addressing the event, Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and President of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan spoke highly of Kiem’s great deed, saying the association will conduct more activities to contribute to deepening solidarity between the two peoples.
Kiem suggested the Cuban Ambassador earmark 40,000 USD for orphanages in the country and the rest for the project to upgrade Nguyen Van Troi park, located in the capital city of Havana .
“Like other Vietnamese people, my family will never forget the wholehearted support of Cuba ’s Party, Government and people – especially of former Cuban President Fidel Castro – for Vietnam during the struggle for national reunification as well as the national construction cause,” Kiem said.
The Cuban diplomat expressed his thanks to labour hero Kiem, who also had handed over gifts to Cuban children several years ago./.
