Hanoi (VNA) - Vu Thanh An and Nguyen Thi Le Dung will represent Vietnam at the Moscow Saber Grand Prix on May 27-29.

World No 42 An will play against most of men’s fencing’s strongest athletes, including No 1 Yakimenko Alexey of Russia, No 2 Szilagyi Aron from Hungary and the Republic of Korea’s Kim Jung-hwan, No 3 in the men’s category.

Dung, No 45, will compete in the women’s category, which will also showcase the top three female players in the world – Olga Kharlan of Ukraine, Mariel Zagunis of the US, and Sofya Velikaya of Russia.

The Moscow event is the last Grand Prix international tournament before the main event of the four-year term – the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, which will see both An and Dung join thousands of athletes in competing this summer.

Moscow Sabre is one of the oldest and most significant fencing tournaments in the world. It is more than forty years old.

Its winners’ list includes many renowned names. And the tournament is still one of the most prestigious events on the International Fencing Federation’s calendar, according to Alexander Mikhailov, President of the Russian Fencing Federation.

The Grand Prix will take place in Moscow at the sports complex Druzhba, on the banks of the Moscow river.-VNA
