Delegates at a seminar in Ho Chi Minh City on June 17 learnt about utilising Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) through the analysis of enterprises’ enhanced competitiveness, effective use of human resources and how to turn Vietnam into an attractive investment destination.

A representative from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) said apart from boosting trade and diversifying exports, FTAs also pose challenges that require close coordination between the private and State sectors while working out policies and expanding exports-imports in line with the FTAs.

Executive Director of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in HCM City Hirotaka Yasuzumi suggested both businesses and State agencies keep abreast of FTAs to optimise their use in Vietnam.

At the event, JETRO experts made clearer the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership’s benefits to ASEAN, FTA trends and the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP), regulations on the origin of goods in Asia, and the future application and implementation of FTAs and Economic Partnership Agreements (EPA) in Vietnam.

The event was co-hosted by the MoIT and JETRO.-VNA
