Vietnamese Health Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tien had a working session with French Minister of Social Affairs and Health Marisol Touraine during her visit to France from 16-18 May.

At the meeting, Tien affirmed the traditional and effective cooperation in the health sector between the two countries, particularly in human resources training.

Health cooperation between Vietnam and France has been further promoted since the two Governments inked a cooperation agreement on medicine and pharmacy in 1993.

Over 2,000 Vietnamese doctors have studied under various training programmes in France so far. In addition, France has helped Vietnam build hospital infrastructure and provided the country with heath care equipment.

According to the Minister, Vietnam is asking France to support a project to modernise the Hanoi Medical University and build its teaching hospital, as well as continue training programmes for Vietnam .

During the visit, which coincided with activities to mark the 40 th anniversary of Vietnam-France diplomatic ties, the Vietnamese health delegation attended a cooperation agreement signing ceremony between the Hanoi Medical University and the Claude Bernard University Lyon 1.-VNA
