Senior Lieutenant General Do Ba Ty held talks with Major General Suvon Luongbunmi, Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People’s Army in Hanoi on May 28 during his visit to Vietnam from May 27-31.

Both generals briefed each other on the current situation in their respective countries and discussed issues of common concern.

Ty praised the contributions made by Major General Luongbunmi to the special friendship that exists between both countries, armies and peoples.

Major General Luongbunmi said he is delighted to visit Vietnam and that he believes his visit will yield positive outcomes.

They reviewed results of recent joint working between both General Staffs and discussed ways to effectively implement the cooperation plan for 2012. The plan focuses on strengthening solidarity and mutual understanding for peace, cooperation and friendship between both countries, armies and peoples.

In the future, the Vietnam and Lao People’s Armies will step up the exchange of delegations at all level, support each other on training issues and work together to repatriate the remains of Vietnamese martyrs who laid down their lives in Laos .

They also agreed to work closely with each other to coordinate the activities being held to mark the 50 years of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic ties and the 35 years since the signing of the friendship and cooperation treaty, as well as celebrating the 2012 Vietnam-Laos Year of Friendship.-VNA
