The Vietnam-Russia and Russia-Vietnam friendship parliamentary groups have agreed to continue increasing cooperation in education, science and economic ties to match the level of the two countries’ relations.

The agreement was reached at a meeting between delegations of the two groups in Hanoi on November 14.

Dao Trong Thi, head of the Vietnamese group and Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children, expressed his wish for Vietnam and Russia to share experience in law making, and work together to build a legal basis for Vietnamese guest workers in Russia .

He also suggested beefing up friendship parliamentary group exchanges by holding regular meetings once every two years.

Viktor S. Kosurov, head of the Russia-Vietnam friendship parliamentary group and First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Science, Education, Culture and Information Policy, said that Vietnam and Russia should accelerate economic cooperation, now that both countries are members of the World Trade Organisation.

During the talks, the two officials shared the view that a number of cultural exchange activities have been organised to boost mutual understanding and friendship.

They added that the two nations have also raised security and defence cooperation, science and technology, as well as the cooperation between localities via delegation exchanges and agreements.-VNA
