Vietnamese-Thai businessmen gathered at the Business Association of Thai Vietnam (BAOTV)’s second congress, which opened in the northeast province of Udon Thani, Thailand on October 18 and drew 1,100 participants.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Vu Hong Nam expressed his delight over the Vietnamese overseas enterprises’ success in Thailand, highlighting that it would help improve the host country’s and Vietnam’s socio-economic development.

BAOTV has done its utmost to promote investment and business connections between hundreds of Vietnamese and Thai enterprises, BAOTV Chairman Nguyen Quang Trung said in his opening remarks at the event.

Vietnamese overseas businessmen in Thailand have increased imports of Vietnamese commodities, in response to the campaign to encourage Vietnamese people to priotise the purchase of Vietnamese products.

In addition, BAOTV is promoting programmes to supports its members in preparation for the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by the end of this year, Trung added.

On this occasion, Deputy Foreign Minister Nam presented certificates of merit for BAOTV and BAOTV Chairman Trung for their achievements in consolidating and developing the Vietnamese expat community.

The congress selected new BAOTV leaders for the 2015-2017 period, with Ho Van Lam elected chairman.-VNA
