The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) held their fourth theoretical dialogue in Berlin, Germany on September 8, focusing on political and economic viewpoints on global and regional integration.

The dialogue was attended by Dinh The Huynh, Politburo member and Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Popularisation and Education, and Edelgard Bumahn, Vice President of German Bundestag, among others.

This year’s event followed the success of the three previous dialogues between the two sides on sustainable development in 2011, renewable and green power and education policy in 2012, and social welfare in 2013.

It contributed to the implementation of the Hanoi Joint Statement on establishing the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership and the further expansion of cooperation in economy, trade, and investment between the two countries.

The SPD shared practices on policy making, particularly the formulation and implementation of the policies on global integration at federal and local levels.

Huynh and Bumahn together voiced their deep concern about recent complicated developments in the East Sea and agreed that peaceful resolutions in accordance with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS), are needed.

The CPV delegation also had talks with SPD Vice President Thorsten Schafer-Guembel during which the two sides updated each other on party congress preparations and global and regional political issues of mutual interest.

The SPD Vice President showed his interest in the CPV’s management experience which has led Vietnam to socio-economic development and foreign affair success over the past years.

He hoped that the two nations would continue to dialogue for enhanced mutual trust and bilateral cooperation.

The CPV delegation will continue studying SPD’s experience and visit production establishments in Hannover and Wolfsburg cities, Neidersachsen state, on September 9.-VNA
