World Architecture Festival 2014: Vietnam’s Chapel wins double prize
“The Chapel”, a community space project in HCM City, was
awarded “World building of the year”.
“The Chapel”, a community space project on the outskirt of Ho Chi Minh
City, designed by Vietnamese artists from local firm A21 Studio, was
awarded the “World building of the year” title at the World Architecture
Festival (WAF) in Singapore.
It also won at the “Civic and Community” category.
To reduce material cost, it was constructed using steel frames and metal sheets from the owner’s previous projects.
Using recycled materials, the designers were creative in mixing the colour and light to create a complete beauty.
Paul Finch, WAF programme director said: “The judges felt this was a project that embraced history and modernity, and created a dialogue in the process”.
Another Vietnam’s firm, Vo Trong Nghia Architects, also won at three categories namely Houses, Future Projects Education and Hotel and Leisure.-VNA
