Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s organic rice products have been sold for high prices in various foreign markets, including the US.

The products are shipped to the US at prices between 2,000-3,000 USD per tonne, much higher than the price of normal rice at 400 USD per tonne. However, supply is yet to meet market demand.

Following the shipment of Hoa Sua-branded rice to the UK by Ca Mau-based Vien Phu JSC, the Ecotiger Company has recently begun to export its Ecorice-branded products to Canada, the US and the EU.

The Ecotiger Company has worked with farmers in Co Chien island in the Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh to ensure that their rice is grown in accordance with organic standards required by the export markets.

The farmers use rice-shrimp production models, with waste from shrimp farming fertilising rice fields. Water from shrimp ponds also helps protect rice from diseases.

In May 2016, Ecorice products was certified by the US, the EU and Japan.-VNA
