Da Nang (VNA) – President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach and President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Sheikh Ahmad Sabah have lauded Vietnam’s thorough preparations for the fifth Asia Beach Games (ABG-5) in the central city of Da Nang.

Meeting Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc before the event’s opening ceremony on September 24 evening, the guests expressed their belief that the ABG 5 will be a success and contribute to the development of sports in Asia and the world.

Congratulating Vietnam on winning a gold shooting medal at the world’s largest sporting event – the 2016 Rio Olympics, they said investing in sport also helps popularise the country’s image and economic potential, especially in tourism.

They pledged to work side by side with Vietnam in athlete training and policy consultation in the field.

The PM, for his part, wished that the IOC and OCA would offer financial and manpower assistance to Vietnam, especially in developing suitable models to promote sports in schools and the community.

He asked them to offer advices on how to develop sports in Vietnam’s situation, helping the country ingrate into the region and the world.-VNA
