Vietnam defeated Chinese Taipei 6-1 in the first match of the Asian Football Confederation Under-19 Championship’s qualifying around on October 3 in Malaysia.

Striker Nguyen Cong Phuong scored a hat-trick, Nguyen Van Toan netted twice and Lam Ti Phong added one more goal.

Taipei scored at the 89 th minute in the match.

In the day’s early game, Australia beat Hong Kong 7-0 to move top of the group. Vietnam currently sit second.

Before coming to Kuala Lumpur, Vietnam set a target of taking the top spot with a view to qualifying for the final round in Myanmar next year.

Vietnam will meet Hong Kong on October 4 while Australia play against Taipei.-VNA
