Vinaphone, a subsidiary of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT) Group, has signed contracts with Motorola’s Home&Networks Mobility business to expand its GSM network, according to the US telecom giant.

The new deployment of more than 3,000 sites will, over the next two years, extend Vinaphone’s 2G network coverage and capacity in the southern and northern provinces, including the densely populated cities of Hanoi and HCM City.

“With a strong relationship stretching back some 12 years, we are very pleased to continue our long-term cooperation with Vinaphone and to be able to ensure mobile users in Vietnam continual access to high-quality mobile services,” Ray Owen, general director of Motorola Vietnam, said.

“The new deployment will extend coverage and increase the capacity of Vinaphone’s GSM network, meeting the rapidly growing demand for mobile communications services in the country,” Owen said.

“As a major operator in Vietnam , Vinaphone has chosen Motorola to support its network deployments for top-quality communications solutions and services. The extended GSM network will help Vinaphone increase capacity to fulfil the growing demands for telecom services in urban areas, as well as provide better coverage and user experiences in suburban and rural areas.”/.
