– Ten Vietnamese exhibitors attended the 23rd Southern African International Trade Exhibition for Retail Products (SAITEX) in the Southern African city of Johannesburg from June 19-21.

The largest annual international trade event in Africa attracted nearly 700 exhibitors from 30 countries across Africa, Europe and Asia and more than 20,000 visitors.

Vietnamese apparels, food, household appliances, interior décor and construction materials, mostly popular brands from Hanoi and several localities were displayed.

On the opening day on June 19, over 1,000 guests visited Vietnamese stalls, including Stephen McQueen from the ruling African National Congress (ANC) Party of South Africa’s Economic Commission, the ambassadors of Indonesia and Pakistan, diplomats and trade representatives.

Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Deputy Director of the Hanoi municipal Department of Industry and Trade, said the city has encouraged and helped local firms to join trade promotion programmes in emerging markets such as South Africa and other African countries.

The event provides a good opportunity for Hanoi’s businesses to boost exports, she said.

Vietnamese Ambassador to South Africa Le Huy Hoang said Vietnam’s exports to Africa have so far hit 1.2 billion USD.

He believed that goods from Hanoi and Vietnam in general will better navigate the host country in the foreseeable future.-VNA
