Hanoi (VNA) – Get-togethers are being held in many localities nationwide for Christian dignitaries and followers amid the jubilant atmosphere of the upcoming Christmas.

On December 21, a delegation of the Steering Committee for the Central Highlands Region led by its deputy head H’Ngam Nie Kdam visited Catholics and Protestants in Dak Lak, Gia Lai and Kon Tum provinces.

Wishing the Catholics and Protestants a merry and peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year, H’Ngam Nie Kdam praised their efforts in patriotic movements, socio-economic development, poverty reduction and political-security in their localities.

She noted her hope that Catholic and Protestant dignitaries will guide their religious followers to play a more active role in these movements, contributing to building a wealthy region.

The same day, Secretary of the Can Tho city Party’s Committee Tran Quoc Trung visited Catholics and Protestants in Ninh Kieu district.

The municipal official briefed the dignitaries and followers on the city’s politico-socio-economic achievements in 2015, which, he said, saw their great contributions.

He voiced his wish to build on the tradition of solidarity to march together with other religions in the locality and the nation to boost production and build a wealthy and civilised city.

Can Tho is home to nearly 100,000 Christian followers, accounting for over 9 percent of the city’s population.

On this occasion, officials of the People’s Council, the People’s Committee, the Fatherland Front, and religious affairs and mass popularisation boards of northern Thai Nguyen province also paid visits to Catholic and Protestant dignitaries and followers in the locality.

In the southern province of Vinh Long, at a meeting with local Catholics and Protestants, Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Truong Van Sau wished them a merry festive season.

He attributed the province’s achievements in various areas to contributions of Catholic and Protestant followers.

The official expressed his hope that the dignitaries will join hands with Party Committees, authorities and fatherland fronts at all levels to encourage their religious followers to abide by the State’s policies and laws.

Catholics and Protestant representatives thanked the local authorities for their attention to economic development and religious practice, and pledged greater efforts for local development.-VNA
