Vietnam sent four athletes to the Asian Women's Boxing Championship which opened on May 20 in Astana City, Kazakhstan.

They are Le Thi Hien who will compete in the 64kg category, Doan Thi Lien in the 54kg class, Nguyen Thi Hoa in the 46kg pool and Liu Thi Duyen in the 57kg event.

In this year's tournament, Vietnam's Asian Indoor Games defending champion Nguyen Thi Phuong (48kg) will not take part as she is training in China in preparation for the coming Asian Games later this year.

The boxers will compete against nearly 100 rivals from 16 other countries and territories. China and India are title candidates, with both countries represented by their 2009 world champions.

The tournament's finals are scheduled for May 30.

Last year, Vietnamese boxers earned plaudits after winning two silver medals at the Asian Boxing Championship in India./.
