On Feb. 16 the President of Vietnam’s Red Cross, Tran Ngoc Tang, presented 30,000 USD to the Filipino Ambassador to Vietnam, Jevvil G. Santos, to help the Philippines recover from the devastation caused by Typhoon Washi.

The move was in response to the United Nation’s call for more aid to help the Philippines deal with post-disaster difficulties, underlining Vietnam ’s compassion and spirit of solidarity towards other ASEAN member nations.

Typhoon Washi, which ravaged the Philippines last December, destroyed most of the island of Midanao . Storm victims are still suffering from a shortage of shelter, food and other necessities though emergency aid from several countries and international agencies has already been sent to the affected regions, with Vietnam contributing 100,000 USD to the Filipino fund for post-disaster reconstruction./.
