General Director of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) Nguyen Duc Loi has given his support to the cooperation between the VNA’s Economic News Department and NNA Japan Co. as proposed by President of the Kyodo News Agency Masaki Fukuyama.

The VNA chief, who is conducting a working visit to Japan from March 25-29, made the statement during talks with Masaki Fukuyama, who revealed that the NNA Japan Co. specialises in producing economic news and intends to report on the Vietnamese economic situation.

Fukuyama said he hopes this cooperation between the NNA and VNA will be as effective as cooperative ties have traditionally been between the two news agencies.

He affirmed that Japan attaches great importance to relations with Vietnam, and that exchanging information is becoming increasingly relevant as the number of Japanese companies investing in Vietnam grows.

During his visit, General Director Nguyen Duc Loi was received by Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida.

The Minister highlighted the remarkable progress in the relationship between Vietnam and Japan since the two countries elevated their ties to strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia following the State visit of President Truong Tan Sang to Japan in March 2014 at the invitation of Emperor Akihito.

He lauded the exchange between the two countries at the Japan-Vietnam cooperation joint committee and the third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in Japan in March 2015.

General Director Loi briefed his host on the organisational structure and operations of his agency and spotlighted the relations between the VNA and Kyodo.

He confirmed that their respective press agencies will make active contributions to promoting the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Japan.

On the occasion, the VNA chief also visited Fukuoka city where he had a working session with President of the Nishinippon newspaper Takao Kawasaki.

Kawasaki expressed his interest in opportunities for cooperation with the VNA.

General Director Loi also visited Kumamoto prefecture and participated in press activities with Kyodo officials in Kyushu region.-VNA
