Vietnam News Agency’s Representative Office in Ho Chi Minh City on August 26 presented 420 gifts to students living in a flooded border area in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap.

The gifts, including 3,360 notebooks and 42 million VND, were given to students at Dinh Ba primary school in Tan Ho Co commune, Tan Hong district.

The school has 420 students, including 30 Cambodians. Most of them are in difficult circumstances, and in rainy seasons, muddy roads make it hard for them to attend classes.

The gifts are expected to partly contribute to reducing the number of students leaving school in remote areas.

On the occasion of the new academic year, the provincial Education and Training Department launched a study encouragement month scheduled for September to call for students’ attendance at schools, mobilise scholarships to support outstanding poor students and educate local people about paying more attention to their children’s learning.-VNA
