The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Vietnam exchanged the documents ratifying the Extradition Treaty between the two countries at a ceremony in Hanoi on August 12.

The document exchange made the Treaty effective, marking a milestone in the Vietnam-India comprehensive partnership which has grown in all fields since its establishment five years ago, Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Rannjit Rae said.

He also stated that this is an important move forward of the two countries’ law enforcement agencies, which are about to put a treaty of criminal transfer into practice.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ho Xuan Son said he believes that both sides will continue working closely to execute the document effectively to reinforce the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation for each country’s prosperity, as well as the regional and global peace and stability.

The Extradition Treaty provides a legal basis for the two countries’ law enforcement bodies to increase the exchange of information as well as coordination in the fight against crimes.-VNA
