Disabled Vietnamese swimmers set four ASEAN Para Games records as Vietnam secured third on the medal tally at the games which closed in Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 19.

Nguyen Quang Vuong’s 1:24.10 record won the men’s 100 m breaststroke SB8 final and bettered his 1:25.16 time in Korat, Thailand, last year.

Thailand’s Suchai Charoenpak and Indonesia’s Sandi chased him home.

In the men’s 100m backstroke S8 final, group A, Dang Van Cong won in 1:25.09. Malaysia Mohd Redzuan Ahmad was second.


In the men’s 50m freestyle S5, group A, Vo Thanh Tung’s 37.40 took gold and bettered Thai Vorachit Keawkham’s four-year-old mark of 38.48.

In the men’s 4x100 medley relay, group A final, Vietnam won in 5:07.48 and bettered the mark set by Indonesia by about 18 sec.

Le Tien Dat won the men’s 100m breaststroke SB6 final while seven lof his team mates took minor medals.
Vietnam also grabbed five badminton golds.

After five days of competition, Vietnam took 73 gold, 57 silver and 45 bronze medals to rank third behind Thailand and Malaysia on the medals table./.
