Over 400 war veterans who used to serve on the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago gathered at a meeting in the central coastal city of Nha Trang on April 24 to mark the 40 th anniversary of the liberation of Truong Sa.

At the meeting, Le Xuan Ba, former Vice Chairman of Political Affairs of Naval Zone 4, looked back on the military campaign which liberated the archipelago on April 29, 1975,
contributing to the liberation of the entire southern region and reunification of the country.

Xuan Ba, who also once served as Chairman of Truong Sa district People’s Committee, described the remarkable changes in the islands over the past 40 years, particularly the enhanced living standards of both soldiers and civilian communities in the district.

The war veterans later floated lanterns in Nha Trang Bay to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers, who sacrificed their lives to protect the nation’s territorial skies and waters.-VNA
