Construction of the Nhon Trach 2 thermoelectric power station started in southern Dong Nai province on June 27 in the presence of State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

President Triet highly appreciated the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) for building power plants in localities in various provinces, stressing that the Nhon Trach 2 is an important project to help stablise and supply electricity for national economic development.

The 750MW plant with an investment capital of over 700 million USD is expected to produce 4.5 billion kWh of electricity annually, helping to ease the country’s power shortages until 2015.

The President hailed the investor for ensuring social welfare and helping people in the plant’s location. PetroVietnam granted 5 billion VND to build a school in Phuoc An commune, Nhon Trach district and recruited local people to work for the project.

The project’s EPC contractors are the Vietnam Machinery Erection Corporation (Lilama) and the PetroVietnam Construction Joint Stock Company (PVC).

Major machinery and equipment for the plant will be supplied by the German contractor Siemens under a 375 million USD contract./.
