The People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City on July 22 held a ceremony to kick off construction of a children’s hospital in Binh Chanh district.

The hospital is the first among a series of facilities to be built under a project approved by the committee to develop the city’s healthcare sector by 2020 with vision towards 2025.

Covering a total area of 24,940 square metres in Tan Kien and Tan Nhut communes, the 8-storey hospital will contain 1,000 beds and cater for polyclinic examinations and in-and-out-patient treatment.

According to Dr. Nguyen Tan Binh, Director of the municipal Health Department, the 2.5 trillion VND (119 million USD) hospital will meet regional standards thanks to its modern, energy-saving and environmentally friendly design.

Once operational in 2015, it is expected to satisfy check-up and treatment demand of not only local children but also those from other southern localities, he added.-VNA
