Works began on the construction of the Bau Vit bridge on Feb. 25 in the central province of Quang Tri as part of a project on increasing safety on the North-South railway.

Bau Vit is among seven railway bridges to be upgraded in the CP1D bidding package worth over 30.32 million USD. Four of the bridges are in Quang Binh province and three in Quang Tri province, which are in a region prone to natural disasters such as floods and storms.

The package is carried out by Tekken and Yokogawa companies of Japan and the Thang Long Construction Corporation.

The Japanese government lent 16.26 million USD to the construction while the Vietnamese side contributed the remaining capital.

The project on increasing safety on the North-South railway includes 44 bridges, a railway station and other relevant construction projects on the railway linking the capital city of Hanoi with Ho Chi Minh City./.
