The 10th ASEAN Skills Competition will take place from October 23-28 at the National Conference Centre in Hanoi, featuring 23 occupational skills and two performance skills.
The news was revealed at the first meeting of the Steering Committee and the Organising Board for the Competition in Hanoi on February 28, which was also used to discuss issues related to regulations and organisational procedures.
The hosting of the competition will help promote the achievements reaped by the country in its socio-economic development to international friends, the organisers said.
It is also expected to help realise the Vietnamese Party and State’s international integration policy while strengthening solidarity, cooperation and friendship among ASEAN member nations.
At the meeting, relevant ministries and sectors were asked to work with the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to ensure security and safety during the event.
The biennial competition aims to promote and improve vocational skills in the region so that they can meet international standards. Young workers in ASEAN member countries under the age of 22 are eligible for the event.
Vietnam first hosted the competition in 2004 , topping the medal tally with 13 of the 18 gold medals. During the 9th event in Indonesia in 2012, the country earned second place, with 44 workers competing in 22 skills.-VNA
