Vietnam sent 110 enterprises from 24 cities and provinces to the sixth China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) which opened in Nanning city on Oct. 20.

The Vietnamese delegation, the largest among 10 ASEAN countries, brought to the fair various kinds of products, including woodwork, fine art and craft articles, confectionary, seafood, frozen food, coffee and footwear.

Chinese Permanent Deputy Premier Li Keqiang joined government leaders from ASEAN member countries, including Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung at the opening ceremony.

CAEXPO has been held annually in Nanning city since 2004 at China ’s proposal at the seventh China-ASEAN Summit in Bali , Indonesia in October, 2003.

This year’s event attracted businesses from more than 30 countries, showcasing goods at 4,000 booths.

Vietnamese enterprises signed 200 contracts and conducted 200,000 trade transactions worth 350 million USD at the CAEXPO 2008.

Meeting with ASEAN governmental leaders on Oct. 19, China ’s Deputy Premier Li Keqiang spoke highly of the strategic partnership between China and ASEAN and pledged to lift the regional cooperation to a new height.

Li held talks with Vietnamese Deputy PM Nguyen Sinh Hung, Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh and First Secretary of the State Peace and Development Council for Myanmar Tin Aung Mying Oo, as they came to Nanning for the event. The Chinese official spoke highly of the relations between China and Vietnam , Laos and Myanmar .

Nong Rong, Deputy Secretary General of the expo said that China and ASEAN will soon become third largest trade partners of each other, citing an annual growth of 20-30 percent in the value of duty-free trade between the two sides over recent years.

China and ASEAN are currently the fourth largest partners of each other with bilateral trade value increasing from 100 billion USD in 2004 to 231 billion USD in 2008. The figure is expected to keep rising with a boom in financial service between them, especially when the China-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement comes into effect in January, 2010./.
