Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Malaysian Naval Region Command 1 (Mawilla 1) has seized a Vietnamese fishing boat with 12 fishermen onboard which was allegedly operating in Malaysia’s exclusive economic zone, reported local media of Malaysia.

The News Straits Times newspaper quoted a Mawilla 1 statement as saying that the boat was arrested on December 8 in Terengganu waters, about 120 nautical miles from Pulau Perhentian.

The Malaysian authorities held that the fishermen violated the country’s Fisheries Act 1985. They towed the boat to Pulau Perhentian before handing over it to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.-VNA
